FINANCE, TOURISM & RECREATION COMMITTEE

The mandate of the Finance, Tourism and Recreation Committee:

1. to advise Council on all fiscal matters, including the development of the annual operating and capital budgets;

2. to recommend to Council rates for taxation;

3. to recommend to Council the appointments of the Town Solicitor and Auditor;

4. to recommend payments of municipal grants to boards, commissions, volunteer committees and charitable organizations;

5. to review and make recommendations respecting all bylaws, except those that are assigned to other committees;

6. to recommend policies and programs (including highway signage) to market Montague as a successful tourist destination;

7. to recommend policies and programs respecting the development and usage of parks and recreational facilities and services, including but not limited to playgrounds and sports fields;

8. to liaise with various groups providing sport and/or recreational services within the town.

PUBLIC WORKS & UTILITIES COMMITTEE

The mandate of the Public Works and Utilities Committee is:

1. to recommend policies and programs respecting the operations of the maintenance department with respect to the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks and other public property;

2. to recommend capital improvement projects for streets, sidewalks and other public properties;

3. to recommend proposed changes to the town’s street lighting program;

4. to recommend policies and programs respecting to operations and maintenance of the water supply and distribution system;

5. to recommend policies and programs respecting the operations and maintenance of the sewerage collection and treatment systems;

6. to recommend policies and programs respecting environmental issues.

POLICE, FIRE AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

The mandate of the Police, Fire and Public Safety Committee is:

1. to review and make recommendations with respect to bylaws dealing with public safety issues, such as public nuisances, animal control, dangerous and unsightly premises;

2. to perform the duties of the Emergency Measures Standing Committee as outlined in the Emergency measures Bylaw;

3. to liaise with the RCMP respecting policing services;

4. to liaise with the Montague Volunteer Fire Department respecting fire protection.

PLANNING BOARD

The mandate of the Planning Board is:

1.to prepare and recommend to Council any proposed changes to the Official Plan;

2.to recommend to Council any bylaws in respect to the Official Plan (Zoning, Subdivision, Building, Signage);

3.to report to Council regularly on planning matters;

4.to perform such other duties of a planning nature as may be requested by council.
